The Kanzi Conference

Welcome, Presenters! We are thrilled to have you join us for the 2025 Kanzi Conference. Kanzi’s Celebration of Life is being held at the Science Center of Iowa on November 8th. Please arrive at 5 PM to ensure you have time to hang your poster before The Kanzi Memorial starts at 5:15 PM. The Kanzi Conference (reception) will begin after The Kanzi Memorial at ~6 PM and the event will end at 8 PM. Please feel free to stop by other posters during the reception. The Tangerine Food Co is serving delicious small plates and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the event.

Poster Presentations: Thanks to Ape Initiative’s event partner, Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, we will have poster board and easel display options. Please see the below example image of the poster display set-up. Posters cannot exceed 48 x 48 inches. We will have materials available for you to clip your poster to the poster display board. Below are guidelines for poster presentations. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions!

 
 

Guidelines: The Kanzi Conference will be attended by scientific and lay audiences, so we recommend the following accessibility guidelines for your poster presentation. Following these steps will help others enjoy and learn from your poster.

  • Use simplistic language, spell out any acronyms, use short blocks of text, and use bullet points for clarity

  • Label all sections, data, images, and charts

  • Use more than just color to differentiate groups/data points (e.g., using high contrast colors and varied shapes to represent different groups/conditions and clearly printing a legend for the various labels), and avoid using red/green for distinctions

  • Use matte or non-glossy finishes to reduce any glare

  • Use a QR code that links to a full PDF of your poster, and/or use additional audio/visual tools in your presentation, if possible


Travel: If you are traveling from out of town, you can reserve a discounted room rate with Ape Initiative’s event partner, Surety Hotel. The Surety Hotel is a 10-minute drive from the Des Moines International Airport and is 0.3 miles from the Science Center of Iowa, where Kanzi’s Celebration of Life will be held.
